Music, research and people
A project by Caterina Forte bringing together music, listening and care for people.
Caterina Forte
Researcher and composer · Creator of BrainSound
Caterina Forte is a certified Feldenkrais Method teacher, composer and researcher studying the effects of music. She leads training courses devoted to developmental movement and neuroplasticity. Music, movement and the brain have been central to her life since childhood and continue to guide her work today.
Her story is intertwined with that of the Forte family. In the 1970s, her father Michele Forte and mother Anna Maria Calatti, both Feldenkrais teachers, opened Studio Forte in Milan. Caterina founded Studio Forte in Palermo in 2004 and continues the family work alongside her brother. The Milan studio, now in its fiftieth year, has worked with the Ballet School of La Scala Theatre, where Michele and Andrea Forte taught.
A story of art and movement
Many people from the arts and sports have turned to Studio Forte to improve their performance: football players, Olympians, dancers and leading Italian performers. Longstanding students include Ornella Vanoni, whose voice carried the spirit of Milan around the world, Anna Prina, longtime director of the La Scala Academy, and many others.
“Continuing my family’s study of movement, focused from the outset on the relationship between art, the body and neuroscience, makes me feel part of a journey that is still unfolding.”
Music, body and brain
Her passion for music and composition led Caterina Forte to explore the relationship between emotions, the body and how the brain works.
She has deepened her knowledge of neuroscience, combining it with the study of brain styles as a Brain Profiler and of heart-brain regulation as a HeartMath Institute Heart Coherence Mentor.
BrainSound research and collaborations
An independent researcher, Caterina Forte has participated since 2008 in numerous projects on the effects of the Feldenkrais Method, working with the University of Palermo (the Faculties of Sports Science and Humanities) and other organizations and institutions.
Since 2020, BrainSound has become an embodied music format designed to develop creativity at the Academies of Fine Arts in Milan Brera, Turin, Naples, Catanzaro and Palermo. The program continued at the Institute for the Blind in Palermo and, in collaboration with the CNR in Palermo, was offered to teenagers at a school in an at-risk neighborhood to support emotional regulation.
For the 60th Venice Biennale, Caterina Forte created the “Claire Fontaine Workshop,” focused on body awareness through listening for women incarcerated at the Giudecca prison, as part of the Vatican’s first pavilion. Claire Fontaine’s work Foreigners Everywhere gave the Biennale Arte its title.
